The i Style is for influence

Individuals with the DiSC i style personality often prioritize shaping their environment through influence and persuasion. 

The enthusiast and the persuader

i styles are driven by social recognition, group dynamics, and interpersonal connections. They prioritize collaboration, action, and exuding enthusiasm. They are frequently characterized as warm, trusting, optimistic, magnetic, enthusiastic, and persuasive. 

  • Fears: Losing influence, Disapproval, Being ignored, Rejection
  • Values: Coaching and counseling, Freedom of expression, Democratic relationships
  • Overuses: Optimism, Praise
  • Influences others through: Charm, Optimism, Energy
  • In conflict: Expresses feelings, Engages in gossip
  • Areas for improvement: Objectivity, Task completion
  • DiSC Classic patterns: Promoter, Persuader, Counselor, Appraiser

i styles are passionate about embracing new ideas and driving them forward. They inspire teams and cultivate excitement for projects. However, they can sometimes exhibit erratic leadership tendencies, showing little regard for consistency or caution.

iD styles are typically characterized by their high energy, charisma, and adventurous nature, influencing others through their boldness and passion.

  • Traits: High-energy, Poised, Persuasive, Open, Ambitious, Self-promoting, Influential, Impatient, Adventurous, Charismatic
  • Goals: Popularity, Exciting breakthroughs, Prestige
  • Fears: Fixed environments, Loss of approval or attention
  • Influences others through: Boldness, Passion
  • Overuses: Impulsiveness, Outspokenness
  • In conflict: Expresses feelings, Becomes overly dramatic
  • Areas for improvement: Focusing on details, Patience, Listening to others
  • Leadership qualities: Seeks to push boundaries, Discover opportunities, and Motivate action in others. May be perceived as pushy, intimidating, or insincere.

 iS styles are often characterized by their warmth, friendliness, and sociability, exerting influence through their agreeableness and empathy.

  • Traits: Warm, Friendly, Accepting, Collaborative, Empathetic, Upbeat, Deadline-challenged, Conflict-averse, Cheerful, Sociable
  • Goals: Friendship
  • Fears: Pressuring others, Being disliked
  • Influences others by: Agreeableness, Empathy
  • Overuses: Patience with others, Indirect approaches
  • In conflict: Seeks emotional support, Focuses on repairing relationships
  • Areas for improvement: Acknowledging others’ flaws, Confronting problems
  • Leadership qualities: Supportive, Respectful, Positive; may also exhibit indirectness and conflict avoidance.

communicating with a "i" style

When communicating with the DiSC i-style individuals, engage in sharing experiences and provide them with ample opportunity to ask questions and express themselves. Emphasize the positives, refrain from overwhelming them with excessive details, and endeavor not to interrupt their flow of conversation.
